Music Teacher

Imvula Music Program - South Africa

Growing up in Capetown, Paul used to watch people playing Marimba in the streets, and that’s when he first got interested in this musical instrument. He soon began taking Marimba lessons at the Amy Foundation and has been playing it since 2002. One day, someone stopped by to watch him play Marimba at the Gugulethu center and talked to him about the Imvula Music Program.

Paul has been teaching Marimba at Imvula since 2015. He also teaches them how to sing and dance while playing Marimba as part of his regular lessons.

He firmly believes that music education is essential to having a better future: “Children in our community are joining gangsterism and begin using drugs at a young age. So music education is a powerful instrument that keeps them away from the streets, and their mind focused on learning,” he says.

Previously to joining our team, he taught Marimba to children in a Gugulethu center and worked in a hotel as a housekeeper. He loves all genres of music, especially Richard Bona and Andy Narell.
