Experience Traditional Music & Dance from Rwanda

“Ihorere Mwana w’Ibuhoro” is a beautiful example of Gakondo, Rwanda’s traditional music style, characterized by the use of the inanga (a traditional stringed instrument) and vocal harmonies. This song is deeply rooted in Rwandan culture and was popularized by Jean Marie Muyango in the 1990s.

Featuring: Nsanzamahoro Janvier (Inanga & vocals), Niyonkuru Aman (vocals), Uwimana Gatoya Christian (vocals)

This video also features our dance students, led by Samuel Kwizera, executing an Intore dance, the dance of the warriors, that has just been recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Ubuntu Music Program, based in Kigali, is dedicated to preserving and transmitting the rich musical and cultural heritage of Rwanda and welcomes more than 400 students every week.
