The Arawiy Music Program is based in Cusco Peru, and is dedicated to provide music education and training to the youth of Cusco and its region.

This project started in 2023 in the community of Cachimayo, located in the outskirts of Cusco. Free music and dance classes are taking place on a bi-weekly basis at the Sagrado Corazon School in Cachimayo, driven by 4 experienced and dedicated teachers offering training in sikuri (traditional flute), guitar, percussion and vocals.

Our goal is to restore interest for traditional music and dance among youth and help preserve and transmit this heritage.

Arawiy is a Quechua word that means "to create songs" or "to create verses".

ABOUT CUSCO

The city of Cusco is nestled in the heart of the Andes Mountains, and stands as a living testament to the rich cultural heritage of Peru. Once the capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco's cobblestone streets and ancient stone walls still bear witness to its glorious past. Beyond its architectural marvels, Cusco pulses with a vibrant and diverse musical heritage. Traditional Andean melodies, characterized by the haunting tones of panpipes and drums, blend seamlessly with Spanish influences, giving rise to unique genres of music. Cachimayo is a town of nearly 3,000 inhabitants located 30 minutes away of Cuzco, with an altitude of 3,400 meters.
