The Playing for Change Foundation and We The Best Foundation were proud to host its first-ever music camp in Downtown Miami at Joy Studios this summer.
Thirty children, ages 8-18, partook in this free, two-week program and had the opportunity to learn from the best teachers, mentors and producers in the business. These young artists learned the process of music-making and music education, while collaborating, performing, recording demos and tracks in the studio, writing their own songs and making music videos.
We witnessed each child gain confidence and validate themselves as artists and collaborators, while working across genres, ages, and a diverse range of instruments, and experience levels.
Everyone participated in singing and playing in Stand by Me, a song that children at Playing for Change Foundation Schools around the world all sing. This song helps to connect them and remind them they are part of a global movement to educate and inspire through music.
These young artists had the chance to meet outstanding industry professionals including DJ Khaled, American DJ, record executive, author and record producer. They received encouragement, advise and support from him and his foundation. Kids also had the chance to meet the CEO of Sony ATV Publishing, Jorge Mejia, and hear about his journey as an artist, composer and industry executive.
Practicing Stand By Me
Working with outstanding musical organizations, schools and community partners, we were able to identify children who have a passion for music and would appreciate and value this unique opportunity. These organizations include: Guitars over Guns, Young Musicians Unite, Overtown Youth Center, Lotus House, Greater Miami Youth Symphony, Arsht Center, Miami Theater Center and the University of Miami.
Thank you to the talented teachers and producers who made this so special: Nina Carolina Souto, Gabriel Marinuchi, Isabella Galavis, Adrian X and Grammy- Award Winning Producer Dav Julca.
