Sisonke Nyengule is a marimba and drum player from Nyanga East, Cape Town, where he has lived his entire life. He attended Liwa Primary and Intshukumo Comprehensive School and began his music journey through free lessons offered by the Amy Biehl Foundation.
Sisonke started teaching marimba in 2014 at the Amy Biehl Foundation and later continued at Ikamva Labantwana in 2023. He was recruited to the current music program after approaching a colleague about his interest in teaching. His performance experience includes being featured on national television with his band.
Passionate about the power of music, Sisonke believes it helps build discipline in young people and creates positive role models in the community. Influenced by legends like Jonas Gwangwa, Jimmy Dludlu, Winston Mankunku, and Fela Kuti, he aims to teach children not only how to play but also how to compose their own music.
