Professional singer, multidisciplinary artist, choir director, and composer, Ximena is a specialized Art and Culture teacher focused on music, graduated from the National School of Folklore “José María Arguedas.” Raised with the traditional songs of her grandmother and father, she studied at the “Satchmo” and “Leandro Alviña” music schools, and trained with teachers from the National Conservatory of Music including José Pérez-Saco, Bertrand Valenzuela, and Roberto Arguedas Caycho.
She further specialized in traditional music with renowned artists from across Peru, including Chalena Vásquez, Chimango Lares, Enrique Pinto Cárdenas, Esther Condori, María Apaza, and Jorge Choquehuillca, among others.
Ximena has worked as a vocal and choir director with Sinfonía por el Perú in Huaraz and as musical director of the Munay Pukllay project in Cusco. She has taught Art and Culture in schools in Lima and led music programs in rural Andean communities including Patacancha, Huilloc, Rumira Sondormayo, Cuyo Grande, and Chumbivilcas.
As a performer, she has participated in numerous popular music productions and was the vocalist for projects such as “Roberto Arguedas y Calle Dura” (Afro-Peruvian music), “La Trama Popular” (Andean and popular fusion), and Sonqotaki, her solo research project on traditional singing techniques.
