Millicent is a vocalist, songwriter, and music educator from Nyanga, Cape Town, South Africa. She grew up in the vibrant township of Nyanga and attended Sans Souci Girls’ High School before pursuing studies in Analytical Chemistry at Cape Technikon and later a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Cape Town.
With deep roots in gospel and jazz music, Millicent began singing at an early age and later honed her craft performing with various gospel and jazz bands. She was drawn to the Playing For Change Foundation program through a fellow musician who recognized her passion, talent, and desire to teach. Although new to music education, she brings strong vocal skills, a deep understanding of music theory, and a heartfelt desire to inspire confidence, discipline, and self-belief in her students.
Millicent believes in music’s power to heal, unite communities, and open doors for young people. Her favorite artists include Kim Burrell, Jill Scott, Esperanza Spalding, and Nomfundo Xaluva. She is currently in her final year at UCT and committed to helping the next generation discover the transformative power of music.
