A Visit at Ecole de Musique de Kirina

Mali

L’Ecole de Musique de Kirina (the Music School of Kirina) opened its doors in October of 2010. Every week, more than 300 kids attend free classes in kora, balafon, djembé, talking drum, dance, musical theory, traditional History, English and French.
Kirina is a village whose musical traditions have been passed down from generation to generation since the 13th century. The school will help preserve and transmit this unique cultural knowledge, and create a better future for the new generations of Kirina.
In this video, we invite you to visit the school, see its students and teachers at work and meet some of of the leaders of the project including Grammy-winning master kora player, Toumani Diabaté.
