Music Adviser
Mathieu Aupitre aka “Mateo” is a French saxophonist, vocalist and arranger, part of the Playing For Change Band. He joined the PFCF team in 2020 as a music adviser, supporting our staff with methodological advise.
He was born in Villeneuve sur Lot, south-west of France and grew up in the countryside. During his childhood, as his father was a choir director, he used to sing in his choir before studying lyrical singing. Alongside, he learned the saxophone in music schools and studied jazz and modern music in several conservatories.
After graduating he moved to Barcelona, exploring its different scenes, particularly performing Afro-Cuban jazz, Brazilian music, Soul-Funk and World music. These collaborations brought him to play through Europe, Africa, and South America. Since 2014, he is part of the PFC movement, touring regularly across the 5 continents in renowned TV shows such as Altas Horas, Domingo do Faustão, venues such as Billboard Live in Tokyo, TV Arena in Buenos Aires, Bourbon Street in São Paulo, the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles, Highline Ballroom in New York City, festivals such as Blues Fest in Australia, and performed with The Doobie Brothers, Olodum, James Gadson, John Densmore, Ellis Hall, Lee Oskar…
