Prem is from Golbaazar Nagarpalika 3, in south eastern Nepal. His musical journey began at the age of 7 at Public Bindeshwori Madhyamik School in Saptari, Rajbiraj.
Prem underwent music training with the esteemed musician Ambar Gurung. In 1985, he left school and commenced teaching and learning music in Kathmandu. Proficient in flute and various instruments like harmonium, madal, tabla, and naal, he taught music in several schools and worked in hotels, performing at various musical events for over a decade. Prem has also been performing with PFCF teacher Sailendra Khatiwada, for several years.
Prem emphasizes the therapeutic role of music in alleviating stress and redirecting lives, noting its transformative impact on troubled individuals, even helping them overcome drug addiction. He believes music instills discipline, kindness, and calmness, crucial virtues he imparts to his students.
Having taught in numerous schools across the counrty, Prem has witnessed remarkable changes in his students, from calming down to overcoming addiction and becoming more sincere. He values notable students like Shanti Sadha, who became a popular artist, and appreciates the respect and awards he received from Radio Nepal and others.
