Kora Teacher

Gaoussou Sissoko, was born in 1989 in Nioro du Sahel, Mali. He has been our kora teacher at Ecole de Musique de Kirina in Mali since 2020. Gaoussou began his musical journey at a young age within his griot family, learning from his uncle and relatives, who were part of the lineage of the Diabate family (Sidiki and Toumani). He then pursued further musical education at the Conservatoire des Arts et Multimédia Balla Fasséké Kouyaté. After graduating, he became a kora at the conservatory where he studied and later delved into instructing musical theory at a public school in Kangaba,Mali.
Gaoussou Sissoko has been touring internationally on several occasions and collaborated with various Malian musicians, including Karounga Sacko, Moussa Diallo, Babani Koné, and Kandia Kouyaté. He also collaborated on several international music projects such as Jarabe de Palo and Los Atlanticos from Spain, Julia Roco from Spain, the Symphony of the Conservatory of Aarhus from Denmark, and the Symphony of Kora of Mali.
