Jongisizwe Monatsi is a true master of music. Born on the 16th of February in 1973 in Nyanga East Cape town, he has dedicated his life to the craft of music. He is a talented musician, composer, arranger, instructor, and performer, with a particular passion for African percussion instruments.

Jongisizwe’s passion for music led him to study for a Performers Diploma in Music (P.D.M MUZ) at the University of Cape Town’s College of Music. There, he majored in African percussion and graduated in 2000, becoming a true expert in playing multiple instruments, especially African indigenous instruments like African marimbas, uhadi, umrhubhe, isitolotolo, and drums.

Jongisizwe’s musical prowess has taken him and his well-traveled marimba band, Phambili marimba band, to almost every continent around the world, including Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Africa. As the leader of the band, he has been able to showcase his exceptional talent and share the beauty of African music with the world.

Jongisizwe’s impressive resume also includes work experience as a facilitator at Arts Cape, a percussionist at the UCT School of Dance, a drumming instructor at the Cape Town Carnival, and a coordinator and facilitator for marimbas at the Nyanga Arts Development Centre.

With his deep love for music, Jongisizwe has dedicated his life to teaching and sharing his passion with others. He is an inspiration to many and a true gem in the world of music.
