Mpumelelo Banzana hails from Cape Town, South Africa, specifically from a township called Phillipi. Though born and raised in Phillipi, his early years were spent in eNgcobo, a small village called Kwabhokileni in the Eastern Cape. From a young age, Mpumelelo had a profound love for music, which was nurtured in church. This environment provided a platform for him to grow, learn, and develop his singing and piano skills. His passion for music deepened in primary school through chorale music and further in high school with opera. He admires musicians like Handel, Luciano Pavarotti, and composer Mozart, with his favorite pianist being Nqubeko Mbatha for his emotive piano messages.
