Puspan Lal Shrestha is a Kathmandu-based pianist, singer and music composer whose musical journey began in Nijgadh, where he grew up surrounded by the timeless influence of old Nepali classical music. Inspired by his father, a devoted musician, Puspan developed a deep connection with music from an early age. Observing his father’s practice sessions and experimenting with the harmonium at home sparked his natural curiosity and talent. Even before receiving formal training, his instinctive playing began to draw attention, nurturing his confidence and strengthening his passion for music. Introduced to musical notes and chords by his father, Puspan gradually became a self-taught musician, exploring sound with dedication and discipline.
He began singing professionally at the age of 11 and stepped onto the stage as a keyboardist by 14, marking the beginning of his live performance journey. After completing his school education, he moved to Kathmandu in pursuit of professional training and enrolled at the Foundation in Music (FiM), where he refined his technical foundation while actively performing at restaurants, hotels, colleges, clubs, and live events throughout the city. To further advance his artistic and technical expertise, Puspan completed a Higher Diploma in Pop/Rock Piano from Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, expanding his expressive range and musical versatility.
Alongside performing, he began working as a music educator, teaching at schools and conducting workshops to guide and inspire aspiring musicians. He has also appeared on national live television, performing as a featured pianist on It’s My Show, further establishing his presence in Nepal’s contemporary music scene. Currently, Puspan serves as the lead pianist for Dinesh Dhakal and the band Doko Namlo, performing at major live shows and musical events. In addition to performance, he continues to pursue music composition, shaping his artistic voice through original work. His journey reflects a lifelong dedication to music, rooted in early inspiration, strengthened by continuous learning, and driven by a commitment to meaningful artistic expression.
