The Alaya Music Program School is a music, dance, and arts project based at the Chitra Art Space, in Kathmandu, Nepal. Created as a welcoming environment where children can learn, practice, and grow through the arts, Alaya focuses on fostering creativity, confidence, and social change through consistent engagement with music and the arts.

Founded in March 2025 by musician Kishan Adhikari, Alaya has a team of 8 dedicated instructors teaching vocals, ukulele, guitar, piano, sarangi, flute, classical dance, traditional percussion and visual arts.

The Alaya Music Program welcomes over 75 regular students, placing a strong priority on youth from underprivileged backgrounds. The project is actively involved with two government schools in the surrounding area, working closely with the local community to provide unique cultural and artistic opportunities.

Life in the community

Kathmandu has been a cultural crossroad for centuries, bringing together people from other regions such as the Terai in the south to the hills and the far-west Karnali region, creating a city rich in ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity. The Lazimpat area, where we primarily work, reflects this mix, with families from many backgrounds living side by side. This strong sense of community has shaped the Chitra Art Space into a trusted and welcoming place for the Alaya Music Program.
