Sankalpa Verma

Percussion Teacher

Alaya Music Program

Sankalpa Verma is a true gem of Nepal’s percussion world and a guiding rhythmic force at Alaya Art School, based at Chitra Art Space. A master of tabla and deeply fluent in Nepali folk rhythms, madal, and a wide range of Western and Latin percussion styles, Sankalpa brings both technical brilliance and soulful sensitivity to every space he enters.

His journey began early, starting as a tabla teacher at just 17, Sankalpa has since built over 15 years of experience, teaching and performing with dedication and depth. Today, he works with three schools, offers online percussion lessons internationally, and continues to share rhythm across borders while staying firmly rooted in Nepali musical traditions.

At Alaya, Sankalpa’s classes are filled with vibrant energy and genuine connection. His Tuesday sessions often unfold as joyful rhythm circles where children explore sound, listening, and expression together. Teaching tabla and madal, he connects effortlessly with young students, creating an atmosphere of trust, focus, and play. His presence brings calm, joy, and confidence. Children don’t just learn rhythm, they feel it.

Sankalpa’s teaching goes beyond technique. It is about vibration, awareness, and heart. His ability to blend precision with warmth makes him deeply loved by his students and respected within the music community. With every beat, he carries tradition forward while opening new rhythmic paths making him not just a teacher, but a quiet force shaping the future of Nepali percussion.
